Red Bananas

They exist — the red bananas. And there are lots of it here in the Philippines. I wish there were pink and purple bananas too. That would be so kikay. 🙂

Just last week, I’ve seen and tasted the red banana. I bought it on my way to Luisiana, Laguna. I never knew until then that this fruit is grown in Laguna, in my very hometown. Viva Laguna! Hehe.

Here’s how it looked like.

Well, as for the taste, I found not much difference from the yellow banana aside from the very little medicine-like flavor. As I have read from some online articles previously, red bananas have this slight raspberry flavor. That explains it. Sadly, I wasn’t able to choose the red bananas at my preferred stage of ripeness. Not much available that time. Not too ripe and not much the otherwise — perfect! I love munching the texture of this fruit. So when I usually buy bananas in the market, I choose those that are still green.

Reading on about the red bananas, I learned that it’s quite nutritious too. It has more beta carotene and Vitamin C than the yellow ones. Also, it has natural sugars that helps boost your energy instantly. Hey! I need that.

I wish I was able to take a photo of the fruit peeled off. Anyway, I’ll update this blog with that picture if I’m able to get another one.

Hope you guys get to try one of these too. If you did, share your thoughts and comment away!
